PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior guard Erika Nelson (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) has been named the Bradley Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Thursday, after averaging 22.0 points per game last week in a pair of games.
Nelson averaged 22.0 points per game in games against Illinois-Chicago and Northern Illinois and shot 60 percent (12-for-20) from three-point range in the two games last week. She started the week with a game-high 19-point effort at Illinois-Chicago, hitting 5-of-9 three-point attempts to go along with two rebounds and one assist. Nelson followed that with a career-high 25 points against Northern Illinois, as she tied a Robertson Field House record with seven three-pointers. She connected on 7-of-11 shots from beyond the arc against the Huskies. A business management and administration major, Nelson owns a 3.17 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Nelson and the Braves return to action tonight when they play host to Big Ten Conference foe Illinois at 7:05 p.m. at Robertson Memorial Field House. Tonight's game can be viewed in the Peoria area on WTVP Channel 47 and will also be broadcast on 1470 AM WMBD.
