Women?s Basketball Tops Loyola 79-59

PEORIA, Ill.. -- Bradley forced 24 turnovers and allowed just eight points over the final 10:48 of play, using a 26-8 run during that span to defeat visiting Loyola 79-59 in women's basketball action Sunday at Robertson Memorial Field House. Senior Erika Nelson tied a career-high with 20 points, while sophomore Kelly Krumwiede finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Braves.

Bradley (4-4 overall) led from start to finish and led by as many as nine points in the first half, but Loyola trailed by just three points (37-34) at halftime. The Ramblers (0-7 overall) cut the Braves' lead to one point in the opening minutes of the second half and trailed 53-51 with 10:48 to play before the Braves put the game out of reach with a 26-8 run to close the contest.

Loyola had opened the half hitting 7-of-10 shots in the first 9:12 of the second half, and appeared ready to challenge Bradley the remainder of the game. The Braves turned up the pressure defensively down the stretch as the Ramblers closed the game making just 3-of-19 shots and committing seven turnovers, helping key the Braves decisive run. Senior Jen Brown scored eight of Bradley's first 20 points in the final 11 minutes of action to help key the run.

Bradley struggled from the field, shooting 39.7 percent on the afternoon, but committed a season-low 10 turnovers and held a 46-30 edge in points in the paint. The Braves also capitalized on the 24 Loyola turnovers, owning a 23-7 advantage in points off turnovers.

Nelson matched a career-high with 20 her points, hitting 5-of-9 shots, including 3-of-4 three-point attempts. She also added five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Krumwiede posted her fourth double-double in the last five games, finishing with a season-high 20 points to along with her 10 rebounds. Brown had her streak of 45 consecutive starts snapped, but made the most of her playing time as she scored 14 points off the bench in addition to her three assists, no turnovers and three steals in 27 minutes.

Loyola finished the game shooting 41.1 percent from the field (34.5 percent in the second half) and just 25 percent (3-for-12) from three-point range. Marquise Hanser led the Ramblers with 16 points, while Jessica Hylton was also in double figures with 14 points to go along with her team-high eight rebounds.

Senior Ashley Chelleen moved into 25th place on Bradley's career scoring list, passing Liza Reed, and now has 701 career points. Fellow senior Amy Peters slid into 30th on the scoring list and is now one point behind former teammate Va'Nicia Waterman for 29th with 644 points.

After a break for finals, Bradley will play its final road non-conference game of the season Friday, Dec. 15 at Illinois-Chicago. The Braves and Flames will tip off at 7:05 p.m. at the UIC Pavilion.
