PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore outfielder Molly Bergeson (Cleveland, Ill./Geneseo) has named the Bradley Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week, announced Wednesday after helping the Bradley softball team to a 4-0 record and the tournament title at the Bradley Invitational last week.
Bergeson earned all-tournament honors at the Bradley Invititational held at the Dragon's Dome in Pekin, Ill., after hitting .500 (6-for-12) with five runs scored and one RBI in the Braves four tournament games. She drew two walks during tournament play and owned a .571 on base percentage. Her efforts helped Bradley open up a season with four consecutive wins for the first time since winning seven straight games to open the 1995 campaign. A psychology major, Bergeson owns a 3.21 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Bergeson and the Braves are back in action Friday when they open play at the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn. Bradley will face North Florida and Chattanooga during the first day of play and will also play Middle Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, Indiana and Tennessee-Martin during the three-day tournament.
