TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Freshman Ashley Birdsong threw her first collegiate no-hitter Friday afternoon, striking out 12 batters and helping Bradley to a 2-0 victory over Georgia State to conclude first day action at the Florida State Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Braves (8-4 overall) won their third straight game, while Birdsong evened her record at 2-2. Birdsong's no hitter was the 20th in school history and the first since senior Brittany Dehler didn't allow a hit at Evansville on April 16, 2005. Birdsong allowed just two runners to reach base, giving up one walk and 12 strikeouts.

Bradley scored an unearned run in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. Freshman Alycia Bachkora led off the inning with a single down the right field line. Pinch runner Katy Dammer stole second, before advancing to third on Molly Bergeson's two-out bunt single. A Georgia State error on the bunt allowed Dammer to score from third for the only run the Braves would need.

Molly Bergeson reached on another error to lead off the sixth inning. Bethany Till followed with an infield single and freshman Emily Bergeson put down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third with one out. Sophomore Trish Kowalewski drove in Molly Bergeson from third with a single through the left side of the infield to give Bradley a 2-0 lead. The Braves had runners at second and third with one out, before Elizabeth Hyman settled down and struck out the next two batters to get out of the jam for the Panthers.

Birdsong allowed one base runner in the second inning on an error and didn't allow another Georgia State batter to reach base until allowing a two-out walk in the bottom of the seventh. She capped off the outing by striking out Nichole Griffin for her 12th strikeout of the afternoon.

The two pitchers combined to strike out 22 batters and walk just two hitters, while giving up no earned runs. Hyman fell to 4-5 on the season with the loss and Georgia State dropped to 6-11 on the year. Hyman gave up five hits and two unearned runs, while fanning 10 Braves.

Bradley continues play at the Florida State Invitational Saturday against Utah at 11 a.m. (CST) to conclude pool play and will face a yet to be determined opponent later Saturday afternoon.
