JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Junior Scott Phegley is tied for fifth after shooting a 72 in Monday's opening round at the North-South Intercollegiate at the par-72 Jacksonville Beach Golf Club in Jacksonville, Fla., and the Bradley men's golf team is fourth among nine Division I teams after day one.
Phegley is four shots back of the individual leader in a tie for fifth place after carding a team-best 72 during Monday's action. Senior Craig Tautges is two shots behind Phegley in a tie for 15th place after firing a 74 during the first round. Junior Ryan Saurs and sophomore James Taylor are both tied for18th place at 75, while freshman Kyle Shay rounded out the scoring for the Braves with a first-round 76.
The Braves shot 296 during the first day of play and are fourth among Division I schools. Appalachian State turned in a 292 during the first 18 holes to take top honors among Division I competitors. Radford is one shot behind Appalachian State in a tie with Jacksonville at 293. The Braves are three shots back at 296 and are followed by Bethune-Cookman (298), IPFW (307), Butler (314), Lipscomb (317) and Hampton (324), respectively.
Bradley concludes play at the North-South Intercollegiate Tuesday with one round of play.
