Peoria, Ill. ? Junior Teri Chan (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) continued her climb up the Bradley career wins list as she moved into 6th place all-time with a straight-set win at No. 2 singles in a 6-1 defeat at the hands of the St. Louis Billikens at the Clubs at River City North in Peoria on Sunday.
Playing at No. 2 singles for the first time this season, Chan delivered the Braves' only win on the day. Chan was superb in her game plan execution, drawing the Billiken's Tara Grant in with inviting short angles and zipping passing shot after passing shot by the SLU No. 2 player. Chan's 6-2, 6-3 win was her 13th of the season, second-best on the team.
St. Louis was too much for the Braves on this snowy, wet day in Peoria as the Billikens posted straight-set wins in the five other singles matches.
The Braves had a near miss at No. 2 doubles when, on serve at 4-5, the SLU tandem of Amanda Hellberg and Ana Renda broke Chan's serve to go ahead 6-4 and never look back to secure a doubles sweep.
The loss drops the Braves to 2-5 on the spring.
Bradley will have 19 days to regroup before they face IPFW on March 24 in Peoria at 1 p.m.
