MADISON, Ill. -- Junior Ryan Saurs was one of three Bradley players to shoot in the 70's during Tuesday's final round of the Billiken Invitational at Gateway National Golf Course in Madison, Ill., shooting a Bradley low-round 76 on the day as the Bradley men's golf team slipped to 11th place in the 14-team field.
Senior Scott Phegley and freshman Kyle Shay both joined Saurs in the 70's, with both carding 78's during the final day of play. Senior Craig Tautges was the Braves top finisher, tying for 30th place after shooting 81 Tuesday to finish at 228. Fellow senior Josh Brown shot an 80 during the final round to finish two shots behind Tautges in a tie for 40th place at 230.
Saurs final-round 76 moved him into a tie with Brown for 40th place at 230, while Phegley and Shay finished tied for 54th and 61st, respectively, with three-round scores of 233 and 235.
Western Illinois won the team title with a three-round total of 887, edging tournament-host Saint Louis by one shot. Murray State finished third at 895 with DePaul and Austin Peay finishing in a tie for fourth place at 902. Missouri Valley Conference foe Evansville was sixth at 904 and Tennessee Tech was five shots behind the Aces in seventh place at 909.
North Dakota State and Cincinnati tied for eighth place at 912, while UMKC (10th - 915), Bradley (11th - 918), Tennessee-Martin (12th - 922), Lindenwood (13th - 929) and Wisconsin-Green Bay (14th - 936) rounded out the field respectively.
Bradley returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Beu/Mussatto Invitational in Macomb, Ill.
