MACOMB, Ill. -- Seniors Craig Tautges and Josh Brown both shot season-low rounds of 71 in the second round of the Beu/Mussatto Invitational at the Harry Mussatto Golf Course in Macomb, Ill., to highlight first day action for the Bradley men's golf team.
The Braves are seventh in the 13-team field and third of six Division I teams after two rounds of play. Tautges followed up his team-best 73 in the opening round with a season-best 71 to finish the day tied for third place at 144. Brown's 71 followed a first-round 79 as he finds himself tied for 21st at 150 heading into Saturday's final round of play.
Junior Scott Phegley fired rounds of 74 and 78 to finish the day tied for 26th place at 152, two shots behind Brown. Sophomore Will Gebhardt carded rounds of 84 and 79 to finish the day at 163 and alone in 54th place. Fellow sophomore James Taylor rounded out the scoring for the Braves with rounds of 85 and 80 and is tied for 57th place at 165.
Western Illinois-Gold holds the team lead, shooting a two-under par 574 for the two rounds and holds a 12 shot lead on second-place Indian Hill Community College. Western Illinois-Purple is second among Division I teams in fifth place at 594, while the Braves are third among Division I squads with a two-round total of 609. Wisconsin-Green Bay is ninth overall at 618, while IUPUI (11th - 633) and Chicago State (13th - 657) rounded out Division I competition.
