SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Freshman Jacqueline Vitale and sophomore Jessie Musgrove both homered for Bradley, but 25th-ranked Missouri State completed the series sweep taking both games of Saturday's doubleheader with a pair of 3-1 victories in Springfield, Mo.

Bradley (17-20 overall, 4-10 MVC) took 1-0 leads in both games, before Missouri State had three run innings in both games to win both contests by the score of 3-1. Vitale put the Braves ahead in the top of the second inning of the opener with a two-out solo homer for her third dinger of the year.

Missouri State (30-13, 15-2 MVC) managed just two hits in the game off Bradley starter Brittany Dehler. Samantha Fleeman drew a one-out walk and stole second to get things started in the bottom of the fourth inning. Fleeman moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and Shannon Buslepp drew a two-out walk. Pinch runner Katie Evans stole second and both she and Fleeman came around to score on a double off the bat of Melissa Porche. Porche scored on a double by Michelle Armentrout.

Musgrove and sophomore Trish Kowalewski hit back-to-back singles to lead off the seventh inning. Porche came in to relieve Buslepp in the circle for the Bears and retired the next three batters to earn her fourth save of the year.

Dehler fell to 5-6 on the year as she struck out eight batters and walked four. Dehler moved into sole possession of second place on Bradley's career strikeouts list and now has 374 punchouts in her time on The Hilltop. Buslepp struck out five and walked one, while improving to 12-3 on the season.

In the nightcap, the Braves managed just two hits off Melissa Porche, who improved to 13-6 on the season with the win. Musgrove gave Bradley a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning with a one-out solo homer to center field. Musgrove's homer was her team-leading seventh of the season and just one short of tying the Braves season record of eight home runs hit by Brittany Mynsberge (2004) and Natalie Quinn (1996).

Missouri State hit a pair of homers in the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Lacie Ballard reached on an error to lead off the inning and Katie Martin hit a one-out homer to left center to give the Bears a 2-1 lead. Samantha Fleeman added an insurance run later in the inning with a two-out solo homer to left center to push the Missouri State lead to 3-1.

Freshman Ashley Birdsong suffered the loss for the Braves giving up three runs (one earned) in five innings of work. Birdsong struck out four, while falling to 10-8 on the year.

Bradley returns to action Tuesday when the Braves play a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader at Western Illinois.
