Omaha, Neb. ? After an historic win in the first round of the 2006 State Farm Missouri Valley Women's Tennis Championships Friday morning, the Braves season ended with a 4-0 loss to the second-seeded Indiana State Sycamores Friday evening.
Indiana State, behind all-conference performer Jennifer Migan's wins at No. 1 doubles and singles, advanced to Saturday's semi-finals to take on Illinois State, a 4-0 winner over Northern Iowa.
The well-rested Sycamores had too much for the Braves, seizing the doubles point with an 8-2 win from Migan and All-MVC player Joanne Schickerling over Ashley Morris (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Elise Montrose (Portland, Ore./Sunset) at No. 1 and an 8-3 win at No. 3 from Marie Caujolle and Imane Lahlou over Jess Sampias and Erin Krubeck.
Indiana State swept the three completed singles matches to move on to the semis.
Migan, the No. 1 singles All-MVC selection, played like the best player in the conference, topping Morris 6-0, 6-2 at the top spot.
Morris, with her two wins in the morning session, finishes her career as one of the best ever to play on the Hilltop. The senior's 105 combined wins in singles and doubles ties Joie Rolf's all-time Bradley record.
Sarah Galparoli took a straight set decision over Teri Chan (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) at No. 3, 6-3, 6-0 and Fadzai Masiyazi was victorious at No. 4 over Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) 6-2, 6-2.
The Braves end the season having won their first main draw MVC Tournament match since 1994 and a 6-14 overall mark.
