Cedar Falls, Iowa ? Playing their third road match in as many days, the women's tennis team came up on the wrong end of a 5-2 score Sunday at Northern Iowa.
All-time doubles wins leader Ashley Morris (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and junior Elise Montrose grabbed the first match win on the day for the Braves with an impressive, 8-3, win at No. 1 doubles over UNI's Taynara Moraes and Agnese Pukse. Unfortunately for the Braves, that would be the only doubles win they'd claim as Northern Iowa took the doubles point.
In singles play, Montrose won her second straight match after a three-match slide with her straight-set, 6-4,7-5 win over Agnese Pukse at No. 2.
Active singles-wins leader Teri Chan (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) notched career win No. 51, leaving her just eight wins shy of tying Joie Rolf for the all time record. Chan was a straight-set winner over Carolina Hannes, 6-4, 6-4.
The loss drops the Braves to 5-9 overall, 1-4 in MVC play as they head back to Peoria next weekend for the start of a four-match homestand that kicks off next Friday at 1 p.m. at the David Markin Tennis Courts.
