Wichita, Kan. ? Junior thrower Jennifer Jenkins (Calumet City, Ill./Thornwood) set the Bradley record in the women's hammer throw Friday on the opening day of the 2006 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Championships at Cessna Stadium in Wichita, Kan.
Jenkins toss of 170'-11” (52.10m) in her sixth and final attempt marks her second school record in an MVC Championships this season, complementing her NCAA Provisional toss of 62'07.75” in the weight throw on her first throw at the indoor championships.
Jenkins once again set bar high for the conference championships after an up-and-down outdoor season filled with technique adjustments, by jumping nearly six meters from throw one to throw six. The Bradley junior's toss was good for the Braves' first points in the team competition and a sixth place finish.
Fellow junior thrower Kim Martin (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone) grabbed another top ten as she competed in her first final in the conference meet, finishing ninth in the hammer throw with her 154'-11” (47.23m) effort on her fifth toss.
In the only other Bradley action on a light competition day, junior Maya Monitto-Webber (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City) sits in 12th place in her first-ever heptathlon after four events. Monitto-Webber turned in personal best efforts in two of the four events completed on day one, clocking 27.07 in the 200 meters and smashing her mark in the shot put with a heave of 8.52 meters.
