PEORIA, Ill. -- For the fourth time in school history and the second time in a four-year period, Bradley will serve as host for the NCAA Midwest Cross Country Regional, November 10, 2007, at Newman Golf Course, announced by the NCAA. The Braves also hosted NCAA Regionals in 1986, 1996 and 2004.
The Midwest Regional will feature over 30 schools, including every NCAA Division I school in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma in the event on Saturday on Nov. 10, 2007. The top two teams and four individuals from each of the nine regionals will receive spots in the NCAA Championship, which will be hosted by Missouri Valley Conference member Indiana State on Nov. 20 in Terre Haute, Ind. In addition 13 at-large team selections and four at-large individual selections will be awarded for the NCAA Championship.
In 2004, Minnesota claimed the team title on the men's side with Oklahoma State placing second. Missouri won the women's even, while Illinois received an automatic bin in the NCAA Championship with a second-place finish.
"We are honored to once again be selected to host the NCAA Midwest Regional," Bradley cross country and track and field head coach David Beauchem said. "Having great support from the Peoria Park District, it's Golf Division and the Illinois Valley Striders has made each of the previous NCAA Regionals very successful and we look forward to hosting another competitive and exciting NCAA Regional in 2007."
Beauchem competed in the 1986 NCAA Regional in Peoria as a member of the cross country team at Southern Illinois. He has also been a part of both the 1996 and 2004 NCAA Midwest Regionals, entering his 13th season as head coach at Bradley.
"We are honored to have the opportunity to host this quality event," Bradley Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh said. "In turn, to once again showcase to visitors our University setting and the terrific running community of Greater Peoria. In particular, this is a tremendous reflection and vote of confidence regarding the previous outstanding collective jobs done by David Beauchem, Craig Dahlquist, the Illinois Valley Striders, and the Park District Staff, amongst many others. Likewise, this would not be possible without the continued financial support of the Braves Club, B-Club, and other local sponsors who help underwrite this regional meet."
