Des Moines, Iowa - A trio of players from Bradley's women tennis team survived day one of the 2006 Drake Fall Invitational.
Senior Teri Chan (Gunree, Ill./Warren) led the way for the Braves picking up two victories in Flight A Singles. Chan easily defeated Northern Colorado's Meredith Krystofik in two straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. She then eased through the second round by dispatching Drake's Veronika Lesayova in two straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Freshman Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky. /Sacred Heart Academy) came from behind to defeat Drake's Irina Kalashnikova in three sets, 6-7, 6-3, 10-5. Donohue defeated Northern Colorado's Renee Nuccio in two straight sets, 6-, 6-4 to move into the third round of Flight A.
Senior Elise Montrose (Portland, Ore. /Sunset) lost to Lauren Hom (Gustavus Adolfphus), 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio /Princeton) fell to Iowa State's Chrissy Derovin in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
In Flight B singles, freshman Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral) led the way with a bye in the first round. Buterbaugh proceeded to overcome Creighton's Tess Reddin in two sets, 7-5, 6-3, moving her into the third round of Flight B.
Kim Braun (Racine, Wisc./The Prairie School) ousted her fist round opponent Cassie Yaoneshige in two sets, 6-4, 6-0. Braun fell in the second round to Iowa State's Alyssa Palen, 6-0, 6-3.
Sophomore Erin Krubeck (Boulder, Colo. /Fairview) fell to Northern Iowa's Marianna Muraca in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles action, the Chan/Braun duo moves into the second round after receiving a bye. Montrose/Donohue duo mightily dispatched Gustavus Adolphus' Burleigh/Gaard combo, 8-1. Both doubles pairing are back in action in the afternoon as the second round for doubles continues.
The Braves are back in action tomorrow as the Drake Fall Invitational continues in Des Moines, Iowa.
