PEORIA, Ill. -- Alabama A&M (4-7-0) scored on two counter attacks midway through the second half and snapped Bradley's 13-game regular-season home unbeaten streak, dropping the Braves (4-5-1) 2-0 in the championship game of the Holiday Inn City Centre Classic Saturday night at Shea Stadium.
In Saturday's first game, Missouri State (5-3-3) outshot Robert Morris (Pa.) 26-6, but the Colonials (4-4-1) got the game's only goal on a second-half corner kick for a 1-0 victory. Dwayne Chin scored his second goal of the year by heading home Ryan Zabinski's corner kick at the near post in the 64th minute. For the second game in a row, the Colonials went a man down when Jacek Przednowek received his second yellow of the game, resulting in a red card ejection, at 71:44.
In the nightcap, Alabama A&M controlled the game's tempo for much of the night and finished with a 22-13 advantage in shots, the first time Bradley has been outshot in six home games this year. The Bulldogs could not break through, however, until putting together back-to-back counter attacks in the 68th and 73rd minutes.
On the first goal, Lwazi Maziya hit a rocket from the right wing off the cross bar, but MfanaFuthi Bhembe settled the ricochet in front of the net and calmly deposited the game-winner at 67:59 for his fifth goal of the season. Both players were part of a 3-on-2 advantage less than five minutes later, setting up Cornell Castle for the insurance goal at 72:23.
Bradley's best chance to get back into the game came in the 78th minute when Chris Cutshaw was taken down in the box while cutting in from the right corner. Zach Bell took the resulting penalty kick, but Alabama A&M keeper Paul Musoke turned Bell away with a diving stop to his right.
Bradley had not lost a regular-season game at Shea Stadium since Sept. 3, 2005 when Butler downed the Braves, 1-0, in the championship game of the 2005 Holiday Inn City Centre Classic.
After completing its season-long four-game home stand with a 3-1-0 record, Bradley will open Missouri Valley Conference with two road games, beginning next Saturday at Evansville.
