ST. LOUIS -- Bradley sweeper Joe Donoho, a 6-foot-2 senior from Tampa, Fla. (Jesuit H.S.), is the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, giving the Braves their first weekly honor of the year.
Donoho's award has as much to do with his offensive contribution as his defensive work. He scored both goals in Wednesday's 2-0 victory against Evansville, which came into the game leading The Valley in scoring, delivering the first multiple-goal game of his career. Donoho drilled a 25-yard free kick in the 14th minute and added a penalty kick goal in the 29th minute for the game's only scoring. After playing all 90 minutes Wednesday against the Aces, Donoho turned in a complete 110-minute effort in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Missouri State, helping the Braves (7-4-3, 1-0-2) pick up a valuable road point in league play.
Donoho, who leads the team with 1316 minutes played this year, now ranks third on the team with three goals and seven points from his sweeper position. A second-team All-MVC pick as a junior last fall, he continues to lead Bradley in its quest for a third consecutive Valley regular-season championship.
Following tonight's non-conference game at Oral Roberts, the Braves will resume their title defense Saturday by hosting league co-leader Drake (9-3-3, 2-0-1) at 7 p.m. at Shea Stadium. Regular-season ticket prices for Bradley Soccer home games are $5 for adults, $2 for youth (k-12) and free for Bradley University students, faculty and staff, as well as active members of the military and their immediate families, all with valid identification.
