PEORIA, Ill. ? Bradley senior sweeper Joe Donoho (Tampa, Fla./Jesuit H.S.) was named to the 11-player national Team of the Week by College Soccer News Tuesday in recognition of his contributions on both ends of the field last week.
Donoho came up from his defensive position to score both goals in Bradley's 2-0 victory last Wednesday against Evansville. His work at sweeper also helped keep the highest scoring team in the Missouri Valley Conference off the board. He provided more stellar defensive play in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Missouri State, helping the Braves (8-4-3, 1-0-2) run its Valley unbeaten streak to six games. Donoho is the first Brave to receive the weekly national recognition this year.
Although Monday's game did not figure into the College Soccer News award, Donoho also scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in Monday's 2-1 victory at Oral Roberts.
A second-year player at Bradley after transferring from Rutgers following the 2005 season, Donoho was a second-team All-MVC selection last season when he helped the Braves gain a share of the regular-season league title. He has played all but nine minutes through Bradley's first 15 games this year and leads the team in playing time. Donoho also ranks third on the team with four goals and nine points from his sweeper position.
Donoho and the Braves will return to action Saturday night by hosting Valley co-leader Drake (9-3-3, 2-0-1) in a 7 o'clock game at Shea Stadium. Regular-season ticket prices for home games at Shea Stadium are $5 for adults, $2 for youth (k-12) and free for Bradley University students, faculty and staff, as well as active members of the military and their immediate families, all with valid identification. Saturday's game versus the Bulldogs also will be featured as the Valley Game of the Week in the video streaming package offered on the league's official website -- www.mvc-sports.com.
