PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior Katie Nowak (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) has been named the Bradley Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Thursday, after finishing 19th at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Women's Cross Country Championship in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Nowak was the Braves top finisher, pacing Bradley for the third consecutive outing and set a career-best 5K time of 18:16 at the Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. A first-team Missouri Valley Conference scholar-athlete, she helped the Braves to an eighth-place finish. A mechanical engineering major, Nowak owns a 3.95 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Nowak and the Braves return to action Saturday, Nov. 10 when they host the 2007 NCAA Midwest Cross Country Regional at Newman Golf Course. The men's 10K race will start at 11 a.m. with the women's 6K race following at 12:15 p.m.
