PEORIA, Ill. ?
The Bradley soccer team is ranked in a tie for 10th in the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America national poll announced the NSCAA Wednesday. The ranking marks the first time the Braves have been ranked in the final poll.
The 10th-place ranking matches the highest the Braves have appeared in the NSCAA poll in school history. Bradley was ranked 10th during a three-week stretch midway through the 2002 season. During that stretch, the Braves had a five-game unbeaten streak, highlighted by an overtime victory over #23 Tulsa, 3-2, and a 1-1 tie against #5 SMU.
Bradley (16-6-4) won a school-record 16 games in 2007 and claimed a share of its third straight Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championship with the program's first-ever undefeated (4-0-2) run through the league. The Braves went on to beat #7 Creighton in the championship game of the State Farm MVC Tournament in Omaha to capture the program's first-ever league postseason title, then enjoyed a run to the fourth round of the NCAA Tournament. Bradley earned its first-ever NCAA Tournament victory with a 2-0 home win against DePaul at Shea Stadium, then pulled out a dramatic shootout victory at #6 Indiana following a 1-1 draw against the seven-time national champion Hoosiers, setting the stage for the "Miracle in Maryland:" a 3-2, double-overtime victory on the road against the 2005 national champions when the Braves scored twice in the last 2:31 of regulation to force overtime.
