PEORIA, Ill. ? Junior forward Monica Rogers (Forsyth, Ill./St. Teresa/Hampton) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, announced by the league office Monday after helping the Bradley women's basketball team to a 79-70 victory against UC Davis.
Rogers scored a team-high 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting off the bench to pace the Braves in their 79-70 win against visiting UC Davis Friday at Robertson Memorial Field House. She scored 11 points in the second half and also corralled three rebounds in the final 20 minutes of play. Rogers added one assist and two steals in 25 minutes of play in the contest.
She helped the Braves to their fourth consecutive victory, marking the longest win streak since Bradley won four consecutive games in December 2004. Rogers has scored in double figures in three consecutive games and six of nine games overall this season after missing the first two games due to a preseason injury.
A transfer from Hampton University, Rogers is the third Bradley player to earn the award which is in its fifth season of existence. She joins teammate Kelly Krumwiede and former Brave Amy Fuller as the only players in program history to earn the award.
Rogers is the Braves leading scorer and rebounder in her first season with the Braves and is averaging team-bests of 11.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. She missed the first two games of the season after suffering an injury in the preseason, but has helped Bradley to a 6-3 record since returning to the lineup.
Rogers and the Braves return to action Thursday when they open Missouri Valley Conference play with a 7:05 p.m. game at Northern Iowa.
