PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior Jen Brown had been named the State Farm/Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week announced by the league office Monday afternoon. The MVC Player of the Week honor is the first of Brown's career and the first for a Bradley player since Dena Williams earned the award on Feb. 14, 2005.
Brown averaged 20.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game in a pair of road games as she helped Bradley to a near-upset of league-leading Southern Illinois (50-55) and overtime victory at Evansville (82-76). She shot 61 percent from the field and 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from three-point range in the two games. Brown entered the week averaging 6.2 points and 2.9 assists per game while shooting 30.5 percent from the field and 27.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Against Southern Illinois, she had a team-high 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting and also added two assists and two steals as Bradley nearly upset the Salukis. Brown capped the week with a career-best 24 points in the Braves overtime victory at Evansville, hitting 5-of-6 three-pointers and 7-of-10 from the field overall as she became the eighth player in program history to hit 100 career three-pointers.
The Braves victory against the Purple Aces was Bradley's first overtime road win in conference play since defeating Eastern Illinois in triple overtime on Feb. 1, 1992.
Brown and the Braves will be back in action Thursday when they play host to Missouri State at 7:05 p.m. at Robertson Memorial Field House. Thursday's game will be broadcast in the Peoria area on WMBD 1470 AM.
