Track and Field Competes At Friday Night Special

CHARLESTON, Ill. ? Senior Jennifer Jenkins (Calumet City, Ill./Thornwood) was second in the weight throw and sophomore Katie Nowak (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) placed second in the 600-meter run to highlight action at the Eastern Illinois Friday Night Special in Charleston, Ill., for the Bradley track and field team.

The Braves turned in five top five finishes and set a total of 10 season bests in the final tune up before the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship in Carbondale, Ill., next week.

Nowak helped highlight the night's action for Bradley, placing second in the 600-meter run with a season-best time of 1:38.94.  Freshman Shannon Seyller (Harvard, Ill./Harvard) was one of two other Bradley runners to set season-best times in the 600, finishing sixth with a time of 1:46.78.  Freshman Rachel Brubaker (Davis, Ill./Durand) was seventh in a time of 1:47.23, while freshman Tracy Lotter (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) crossed the line in a season-best time of 1:47.52 to place eighth overall in the event.

Jenkins was second in the eight throw with a toss of 16.77 meters (55'00.25”), while senior Kim Martin was third with a season-best heave of 15.25 meters (50'00.50”). 

In the mile, Brubaker helped highlight action with a season-best run of 5:27.02 to finish third, while Lotter finished sixth overall in a time of 5:33.47.

The 400-meter dash brought the Braves only other top five finish of the day as junior Julia Schurr (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Bloom-Carroll) clocked a 1:02.85 to finish fifth overall in a race that included two other Bradley runners.

Senior Maya Monitto-Webber (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City) was the Braves lone runner in the 60-meter hurdles and finished sixth with a season-best time of 9.68 seconds.

Freshmen Catherine Schamberger (Amboy, Ill./Amboy) and Anne Bucalo (Fox River Grove, Ill./Cary-Grove), along with Martin all turned in top 10 performances in the shot put.  Schamberger set a new season-best in the event with a toss of 11.98 meters (39'03.75”) to finish sixth, while Bucalo was seventh at 11.78 meters (38'07.75”) and Martin took 10th with a throw of 11.37 meters (37'03.75”).

The Braves will be back in action Friday, Feb. 23 when they open competition at the 2007 State Farm/Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship in Carbondale, Ill.
