PATTERSON, Calif. ? Senior Charlotte McGinnis is one of three Bradley women's golfers in the top six individuals and the Bradley women's golf team holds a three-shot lead after two rounds of play at the Diablo Grande Invitational at the Diablo Grande Golf Resort in Patterson, Calif., Monday.
The Braves shot a 317 in the first round and carded the best round of the day in the second round, with a 310 to take a three-shot lead heading into Tuesday's final round of play. Long rough helped make for difficult play at what head coach Bo Ryan described as one of the toughest golf courses for collegiate women's golfers he has encountered during his tenure.
Senior Charlotte McGinnis shot a season-low 74 in the opening round and followed up with an 80 in the second round to end the day alone in third place at 154. Sophomore Bari-Lynn Erais concluded Monday's action in a tie for fourth place at 156 after shooting rounds of 80 and 76, while junior Whitney Cox is in sixth place at 157. Cox shot 83 in the morning but tied a season-low with a second-round 74.
Junior Rikki Sobel is 13th in the individual standings with round of 85 and 80 to finish the day at 165. Sophomore Lauren Downing's first-round 80 was followed with a 97 and she is tied for 19th at 177 heading into Tuesday's final round.
Freshman Jenny Van Kirk, a member of the women's basketball team, made her debut on the links for the Braves and provided one of the highlights of the day as she shot a hole-in-one on the par-3, 148-yard seventh hole during the second round of play.
Bradley is first in the four-team field made up entirely of Missouri Valley Conference schools. The Braves hold a three-shot edge with a two-round total of 627 with Missouri State trailing in second place at 630. Wichita State is third overall at 645, while tournament-host Drake is fourth at 673.
Action at the Diablo Grande Invitational will conclude Tuesday with one round of play.
