COOKEVILLE, Tenn. ? Sophomore Ashley Birdsong turned in another solid performance, striking out six while giving up five hits, no walks and just one unearned run, but Bradley was on the wrong end of a no-hitter for the second time this season as the Braves fell 1-0 at Tennessee Tech Thursday afternoon.
Bonnie Bynum struck out 13 and allowed just one Bradley base runner in the game when she surrendered a two-out walk in the top of the seventh inning. Bynum improved to 17-6 on the season, while Tennessee Tech is now 27-10 on the year after the victory. Bradley fell to 12-8 overall on the season and lost for the fifth time in the last six outings after an 11-3 start to the year.
Birdsong (9-5) took the loss for the Braves, despite giving up just one unearned run and scattering five singles in the contest. Tennessee Tech scored the only run of the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning. Beth Boden struck out to start the inning but reached base on a Bradley error and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Boden came around to score on a one-out single to right center by Krystina Dobbs for the only run of the game.
The Braves return to action Saturday when they open a three-game Missouri Valley Conference series against Missouri State with a noon doubleheader at Laura Bradley Park.
