PEORIA, Ill. ? The Bradley women's tennis team opened its conference season with a 7-0 loss to Illinois State, Thursday afternoon at the David Markin Tennis Courts. Bradley fell to 5-10 overall and 0-1 in the MVC with the loss, while Illinois State improved to 6-6 and 1-0 in the MVC.

The duo of senior Elise Montrose (Portland, Ore./Sunset) and freshman Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral) rallied from behind, but eventually fell 8-7 (7-3) to Katri Miller and Veronique Parke-Bedard at No. 1 doubles to highlight doubles action for the Braves. The tandem of freshman Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) and sophomore Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) dropped their No. 2 doubles match to Illinois State's Tanja Hrovatic and Julia Zubkova, 8-1, while freshman Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) and sophomore Erin Krubeck (Boulder Colo./Fairview) fell to Carolyne Parent and Matea Simovic, 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Montrose dropped her match to Katri Miller, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles Regenold suffered a 6-2, 6-0 setback to Julia Zubkova and senior Teri Chan (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) dropped her No. 3 singles match to Veronique Parke-Bedard 6-2, 6-2.

Donohue lost at No. 4 singles to Carolyne Parent, 6-1, 6-1 and Buterbaugh fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles to Tanja Hrovatic. Braun rounded out singles play, with a 6-2, 6-4 loss at No. 6 singles to Megan Rozboril.

The Braves will be back in action Saturday when they continue Missouri Valley Conference play at home, against Indiana State at 1 p.m. at the Markin Tennis Courts.
