Drake Tops Women?s Tennis 6-1

PEORIA, Ill. ? Senior Teri Chan picked up Bradley's lone victory, picking up a hard-fought three-set win at No. 3 singles, but Drake was too much for the Braves as the Bulldogs downed BU 6-1 in Missouri Valley Conference women's tennis action Friday afternoon at the Markin Tennis Courts.

Chan dropped her first set at No. 3 singles to Irina Kalashnikova 6-4, but won the final two sets 7-6, 10-6 to earn the Braves lone victory on the day.  Fellow senior Elise Montrose suffered a 7-5, 6-0 loss to Veronika Leszayova at No. 1 singles.

 

Freshman Jessica Buterbaugh also had a tough first set, falling in the opening set of her match at No. 5 singles against Allison Wilkie 7-5.  Wilkie posted a 6-3 win in the second set to take the match.  Freshman Emily Regenold fell in straight sets to Eveline Rusdianto, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Kely Donohue suffered a 6-4, 6-2 setback at No. 4 singles to Kari Sloboth.  Sophomore Kim Braun rounded out play at No. 6 singles, falling to Daria Zawislak, 6-3, 6-4.

 

Drake swept all three doubles match to open play and earn the doubles point.  Buterbaugh and Montrose dropped an 8-4 decision at No. 1 doubles to Leszayova and Wilkie.  Braun and Donohue lost 8-2 to Rusdianto and Kalashnikova at No. 2 doubles and the Bradley duo of Regenold and Krubeck fell 8-0 at No. 3 doubles to Sloboth and Kari Sloboth.

 

Bradley fell to 6-15 overall and 0-7 in MVC play with the loss, while Drake improved to 9-11 overall and 4-2 in the Valley.

 

Bradley returns to action Sunday when the Braves close out the regular-season against Northern Iowa at 11 a.m. at the Markin Tennis Courts.
