ST. LOUIS, Mo. ? Senior Teri Chan (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) was one of three Bradley women's tennis players to earn Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete honors announced by the league office Thursday.

A finance major with a 3.37 cumulative grade point average, Chan was a first-team MVC Scholar-Athlete selection.  The fifth player in program history to earn first-team Scholar-Athlete honors, she is the first Brave to earn the honor since Beth Hoag in 2001.  Chan enters this weekend's State Farm MVC Championship with a school season record tying 19 singles victories and is Bradley's career record holder for both singles wins (73) and combined wins (116).

Sophomore Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) and senior Elise Montrose (Portland, Ore./Sunset) were also honored, as both received MVC Scholar-Athlete honorable mention recognition.  Braun owns a perfect 4.0 grade point average in entrepreneurship, while Montrose is an advertising major with a 3.45 grade point average.  Montrose is second on the career doubles list with 53 victories, and is a doubles win behind career leader and former teammate Ashley Morris.  She is also fifth on the combined wins list with 98 victories.

To be eligible for selection to the team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing and participate as a starter or important reserve role for her team.

In addition, the Bradley women's team was one of two teams selected for the MVC Team Sportsmanship Award, announced Thursday by the MVC office.

The women's team will take the court Friday at 10 a.m. against #8 Creighton in the first round of the State Farm MVC Team Championship in Omaha, Neb.
