Bluejays End Bradley?s Season, 4-2

The Bradley women's tennis team had its season come to an end Friday afternoon in the first round of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis Championship, falling to tournament-host Creighton 4-2 at the Koch Family Tennis Center. The Braves finished the season with a 5-18 overall record.

The Bluejays won the doubles point to take an early lead. The duo of senior Elise Montrose (Portland, Ore./Sunset) and freshman Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral) fell 8-4 to Katie Chiu and Tess Reddin at No. 1 doubles, while freshman Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) and sophomore Erin Krubeck (Boulder Colo./Fairview) dropped an 8-4 decision to Jodi Yanagida and Cassie Yoneshige at No. 3 doubles. Freshman Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) and sophomore Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) were leading Lindsey Erickson and Nicole Thurston, 7-5, at No. 2 doubles before the point was decided.

Donohue won at No. 4 singles over Lindsey Erickson in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 and Buterbaugh defeated Jodi Yanagida 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, but Creighton took three of five singles matches to win the match. Regenold took the opening set of her match at No. 2 singles against Nicole Thurston, winning 6-2, but fell 7-6 in the second set and was trailing 2-1in the third set when the match ended.

Montrose dropped her match to Katie Chiu, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Braun suffered a 6-4, 6-3 setback at No. 6 singles to Cassie Yoneshige. Senior Teri Chan (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) won the first set 7-6, but dropped the final two sets 6-2, 6-1 to end the match.
