INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. ? Senior Jennifer Jenkins (Calumet City, Ill./ Thornwood) earned a second-place finish and set a school record in the hammer throw to highlight Saturday's action for the Bradley Track and Field team at the Stan Lyons Invitational.
Jenkins set a new school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 54.62 meters to finish second in the field of 38 competitors, which qualifies her for the NCAA Mid-East Regional. Freshman Catherine Schamberger (Amboy, Ill./Amboy) also competed the hammer throw, finishing 29th with a throw of 33.39 meters, while fellow freshman Anne Bucalo (Fox River Grove, Ill./Cary-Grove) finished in 31st-place with toss of 31.95 meters. Schamberger took 19th place in the shot put with a heave of 11.77 meters, while Bucalo was 21st in the same event with a toss of 11.56 meters.
Senior Sarah Westrick (Livonia, Mich. /Winston Churchill) led the pack in the 1,500 meter run with a third-place finish with a time of 4:42.87, while freshman Marlana Haefelin (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) was the second Bradley runner to cross the line in the 1,500 meter run clocking a 4:58.18 for 19th-place. Freshman Rachel Brubaker (Davis, Ill./Durand) was 24th in the 1,500 at 5:03.23 and fellow frosh Amanda Switzer (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) rounded out the Bradley competitors with a 33rd-place finish at 5:21.28.
Freshman Erika Sepich (Canton, Ill./Canton) also helped highlight the field events for the Braves, finishing 10th in the javelin with a throw of 32.50 meters. She also took 14th in the long jump with a leap of 5.28 meters. Sophomore Jessica Holloway (Paris, Ill./Paris) was 28th in the long jump at 4.61 meters. Rounding out the field events was sophomore Trish Martens (Elgin, Ill. /Burlington Central), who took 15th in the triple jump with a jump of 10.30 meters.
Sepich also led the Braves in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.97 for a 13th-place showing. Martens finished with a time of 13.54 for 19th-place, while Holloway finished in 13.83 for a 20th place effort. Sepich also paced Bradley's runners in the 200-meter dash finishing 18th with a time of 27.03. Martens clocked a 27.99 to finish 23rd, while Amanda Harms (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) and Holloway followed closely behind in 25th (28.33) and 26th (28.48), respectively..
Sophomore Nikki Greendyke (Greenville, Ohio/Greenville) finished the 400 meter dash in 1:05.86 for a 14th-place showing, while Celica Tong (Clinton, Iowa/Fulton Christian) finished 17th with a time of 1:11.10.
Senior Maya Monitto-Webber (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City) was 10th in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking a 1:05.98. Harms took 11th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.27, while Calvert was 13th at 17.08.
The Braves return to action next Saturday at the Butler Twilight in Indianapolis, Ind.
