PEORIA, Ill. ? Throughout the 2006-07 athletic year, the Missouri Valley Conference will be celebrating a century of excellence as the nation's second-oldest NCAA Division I conference begins its second centennial as a leader in collegiate athletics. As part of the Centennial Celebration, the Valley is naming all-centennial teams for each of the league's sponsored sports. Friday The Valley released its 47-member MVC softball All-Centennial team which included former Bradley standouts Beth Hawkins-Bonifas and Amy Pera.

A two-time Gateway Conference MVP, Hawkins-Bonifas (1984-87) holds nearly every pitching mark at Bradley and was a three-time first-team all-conference selection. As a freshman she posted a 15-8 record in the circle with a 0.87 ERA, while striking out 113 and walking 27. She tossed three no hitters as a freshman, in addition to hitting a team-best .348 at the plate as she earned first-team All-Gateway Conference recognition.

Hawkins-Bonifas took home the first of two Gateway Conference MVP awards as a sophomore. She finished the 1985 season with a 21-7 record and 0.64 ERA in 207.1 innings as she struck out 275 batters while walking just 19. Hawkins-Bonifas threw a total of four no hitters that spring, including three perfect games.

She followed that up with one of the most dominating seasons in league history as a junior. Hawkins-Bonifas won a school record 28 games, en route to a 28-8 record and struck out a school record 281 batters in the process. She added five more no hitters to her total that spring, including one perfect game, and sported a 0.42 ERA for the season as she earned the second of her two Conference MVP honors.

Hawkins-Bonifas holds the top two seasons marks at Bradley for victories (28 & 21) and is one of two Braves pitchers to post a 20-win season. She also has the top two season strikeouts totals (281 & 275) and her 13 shutouts in 1985 is tops among BU season marks. Pera (1992-95) was named the Gateway Conference Rookie of the Year in 1992 and went on to earn first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors as a junior (1994) and senior (1995). One of two players in program history to earn Academic All-American honors (1995), she was a two-time MVC All-Tournament selection at shortstop and is one of three two-time first-team MVC scholar-athletes at Bradley.
