Bradley senior Erin Krubeck (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) and freshman Veronika Wojakowska (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer H.S.) each posted back draw singles victories on Saturday, leading the Bradley women's tennis team at the second day of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
Wojakowska defeated Drake's Morgan Rainey in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 in the back draw of Flight 3. Her victory puts her in the fifth place match on Sunday against Taynara Moraes of Northern Iowa. Krubeck also posted a straight sets victory, downing Evansville's Allison Cox, 7-5, 6-4 in Flight 6. Krubeck will meet Drake's Amanda Aragon in the fifth place match on Sunday.
In the back draw of the top singles flight, sophomore Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) pushed Evansville's Kate Chybowski to a third set before dropping the match, 6-2, 2-6, 10-8. Junior Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton H.S.) fell in straight sets in the back draw of Flight 2, 7-6, 6-2 to Vishakha Sheoran of Southern Illinois. In the fourth singles flight back draw, junior Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) lost 6-2, 6-1 to Drake's Jessica Aguilera. Junior Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral H.S.) also lost on Saturday, dropping a 6-3, 6-0 match to Northern Iowa's Laia Gonzalez in the back draw of Flight 5.
Miller, Regenold, Donohue and Buterbaugh will each play for seventh place in their respective flights on Sunday.
Two Bradley doubles pairings played semifinals matches on Saturday. After posting a quarterfinal victory in the top doubles flight on Friday, Regenold and Miller lost 8-6 to Wichita State's Laryssa Ferreira and Stephanie Dalmacio on Saturday. The loss forces the Bradley pairing to Sunday's third place match against Sarah Meghoufel and Valeriia Petrovych of Indiana State.
In the third doubles flight, Wojakowska and Krubeck dropped an 8-0 decision to Illinois State's Natalia Lech and Carmen Peters in the flight semifinals. Wojakowska and Krubeck will play for third place on Sunday against Diana Mendez and Jessica Kunzelmann. Buterbaugh and Donohue fell short in the back draw of the second doubles flight, falling 8-5 to Illinois State's Tanja Hrovatic and Hannah Esker.
The Braves will conclude play on Sunday. Singles and doubles play is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
