Perry Shoots Career Best, Braves In 11th At Murray State

Braves Tied For 10th After Season-Best Round

NORMAL, Ill. -- Junior Zach Wanken (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) and sophomore Nathan Perry (Normal, Ill./Normal West) each carded a 69 during the opening day of play at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate and the Bradley men's golf team is currently tied for 10th after 36 holes of play Sunday at the par-70 Weibring Golf Course.

The Braves followed up a morning round of 302 with a season-best 291 in the second round. The 291 is the best round for Bradley since shooting a school-record 282 on Oct. 3, 2006 in the final round on the Murray State Invitational and is tied for the fifth-lowest round in program history.

Wanken shot a one-under par 69 in the opening round and fired a 71 in the second round to finish the day in a tie for fifth-place at even-par 140. Perry rebounded from a first-round 80 to shoot a career-best 69 in the afternoon and is tied for 42nd at 149.

Sophomore Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) is one shot behind Perry in a tie for 48th place at 150 after shooting 74 and 76 Sunday, while freshman Earl Gerlach (Normal, Ill./Normal West) carded rounds of 79 and a season-best 75 to end the day in a tie for 65th at 154.

Freshman Chris Niemiec (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) is 84th overall at 164 after rounds of 83 and 81 to round out team scoring for the Braves.

Illinois sits atop the team standings at five-under par 555 after Sunday's play, while tournament-host Illinois State is three shots back in second place at 558. Western Illinois is third in the standings at 575 and SIU-Edwardsville and Loyola are currently tied for fourth place at 576.

Southern Illinois will enter Monday's final round in sixth place at 584 with Eastern Illinois and Missouri State following in a tie for seventh place at 586. Creighton is ninth (588) and holds a five shot lead on Bradley and Oakland which are tied for 10th at 593. Northern Iowa is one shot behind the Braves in 12th place at 594.

Bradley closes out play at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate Monday with one round of play.
