Sophomore
Coby Thompson (East Galeburg, Ill./Knoxville) shot rounds of 74 and 76 Monday to pace the Bradley men's golf team during day one of the Austin Peay Intercollegiate at the par-72 Links at Novadell. The Braves are 17th in the standings after rounds of 305 and 303 during the opening day of play.
Thompson was Bradley's top performer Monday and finished the day tied for 46th at 150 following his rounds of 74 and 76. Freshman Earl Gerlach (Normal, Ill./Normal West) is one shot behind Thompson in a tie for 54th after rounds of 75 and 76 to finish the day at 151.
Junior Zach Wanken (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) shot a 78 in the morning, but turned in the best second round score for the Braves with a 75 (153) and will begin Tuesday's final round in a tie for 66th. Freshman Chris Niemiec (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) is tied for 73rd at 154 following scores of 78 and 76, while sophomore Nathan Perry (Normal, Ill./Normal West) rounds out the scoring for the Braves at 158 after turning in rounds of 81 and 77 and is currently tied for 85th.
Tournament-host Austin Peay holds a nine-shot edge on second-place Missouri at 25-under par 551. Missouri is in second place at 560 and is followed by Belmont in third at 571. UT-Martin sits in fourth after 36 holes at 579, while Cleveland State rounds out the top five at 582. Lipscomb is one shot back in sixth place at 583 and four teams - Morehead State, Tennessee Tech, Dayton and Eastern Illinois are all tied for seventh at 587.
Tennessee State follows in 11th place at 594 with Towson right behind in 12th place at 596. Cincinnati trails Towson by one shot in 13th (597), while Oakland is 14th at 598. IPFW has a seven shot lead on the Braves in 15th place at 601 and is followed by Wright State in 16th (603). Bradley rounds out the field in 17th place at 608 after rounds of 305 and 303.
The Braves conclude action at the Austin Peay Intercollegiate Tuesday with one round of play.
