SPRINGFIELD, Mo.
? Bradley sophomore Lauren Fog (Harvard, Ill./Harvard H.S.) turned in a 32nd place finish to lead the Bradley women's cross country team to an eighth place finish at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championships, Saturday in Springfield, Mo. The men's team finished ninth, led by sophomore Brian Tyne (Polo, Ill./Polo H.S.).
Fog led the women's team for the first time in her Bradley career and her 5K time of 19:11.89 was a career-best. She was followed closely by junior teammate Amanda Switzer (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem H.S.), who finished 35th with a 5K time of 19:25.96.
Sophomore Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North H.S.) turned in a 46th place finish with a time of 19:42.11. The fourth Bradley scorer was sophomore Leann Murphy (Rochester, Ill./Rochester H.S.) in 50th place, running the course in a time of 19:50.60. Junior Rachel Brubaker (Davis, Ill./Durand H.S.) rounded out the BU scoring with a time of 20:24.68 for 57th place. Junior Tracy Lotter (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago H.S.) was 70th in a 5K time of 21:21.91.
On the men's side, Tyne finished 44th to lead the men's team for the second consecutive race with a time of 26:59.29. Less than a minute later, the Braves used back-to-back finishes with sophomore Tim Owdom (Morton, Ill./Morton H.S.) in 27:45.47 for 55th place and freshman Chris Frank (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart-Griffin) in 56th place with a time of 27:48.57.
Another pair of Braves finished more than a minute later. Freshman Eric Garcia (Oswego, Ill./Oswego H.S.) finished the 8K course in 28:57.44 for 62nd place, followed immediately by freshman teammate Joe Wegner (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.) in 63rd place with a time of 29:04.74. Freshman Sean Swanson (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone H.S.) turned in a 68th place with a time of 30:48.57.
Wichita State claimed the women's team title, led by Kellyn Johnson's runner-up finish. Missouri State's Pasca Cheruiyot won the race with a time of 16:57.81. In the men's race, Jeff Schirmer of Southern Illinois won the individual title in 24:18.73 to lead the Salukis to the team championship.
The Braves will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 15 in Stillwater, Okla., competing in the NCAA Midwest Regional.
