PEORIA, Ill. -- Freshman guard Michelle Lund (Sioux City, Iowa/Bishop Heelan) has been named the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week after helping the Bradley women's basketball team to a 2-0 record last week. Lund earned the award for the second time this season and joins teammate Sonya Harris as the only Bradley players to earn the honor twice.
Lund averaged 13.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 block and 1.5 steals while helping Bradley wrap up the non-conference portion of its schedule with a pair of victories. She shot 61.5 percent (8-for-13) from the field and made 7-of-11 (63.6 percent) from beyond the arc while also connecting on all four of her free throw attempts to help the Braves conclude the non-conference portion of the schedule with a league-best record of 9-2.
Lund was 4-for-5 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, as she scored a team-high 13 points in the Braves 73-65 road win at Toledo. She scored 14 points in BU's 81-65 win against Air Force, hitting 4-of-8 from the field. Lund made 4-of-7 three-point attempts and added two rebounds, three assists and season highs of two blocked shots and three steals in the win against the Falcons. She has 32 three-pointers on the season, which is three more than Bradley's team leader last season, and one short of BU's freshman record of 33 made three-pointers held by Genny Mueller.
The team leader with 32 three-point field goals, she is shooting 45.7 percent from beyond the arc and ranks second on the team in both scoring (11.0 points per game) and assists (2.3 apg). Lund has helped the Braves to their best start since the 2001-02 season.
Bradley returns to action Friday when the Braves open Missouri Valley Conference play with a 7:05 p.m. game at Wichita State.
