PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior guard Skye Johnson (Olympia Fields, Ill./Marian Catholic) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Tuesday, after helping the Bradley women's basketball team to a 3-0 record last week.

Johnson helped Bradley to the championship of the NAU Thanksgiving Classic and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. She averaged 11.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.3 blocks and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 50 percent from the field. She had 15 points, three assists, thee blocks and three steals in Bradley's win against Northern Illinois. Johnson followed it up with eight points, four rebounds, four assists and two blocks in the Braves' road win at Northern Arizona. She corralled a career-high seven rebounds in addition to her 10 points, two assists, two blocks and one steal against preseason Big West Conference favorite UC Riverside in the championship game of the NAU Thanksgiving Classic. Johnson blocked a last-second three-point attempt in the Braves 59-56 win against the Highlanders in the championship game. A health science major, Johnson owns a 3.34 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Johnson and the Braves return to action Saturday when they face Illinois at 1:30 p.m. at the United Center in Chicago, Ill. Saturday's game will be broadcast in the Peoria area on WMBD 1470 AM.
