PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior Rikki Sobel (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week announced Thursday by the league office. Sobel earned the honor for the first time in her career and the honor marks the third time a Bradley player has been named MVC Golfer of the Week in 2007-08.
The ninth different player in program history to be selected as Valley Golfer of the Week, Sobel was the Braves top finisher at Bradley's spring opener at the Baja Invitational at the par-72 Bajamar Resort in Baja, Mexico, earlier this week. She tied for second place in the field to help BU to a fourth-place finish in the nine-team field, which also included Southern Illinois and Drake.
Sobel opened up play with a first-round 78 and carded a career-low 71 in the second round. She fired an 80 during the third and final round to finish tied for second, five shots behind individual medalist Tyrette Metzendorf of Iowa at 229. Sobel's top five finish was her first of the season and the sixth of her career.
The Bradley women's golf team returns to action March 7-9 at the Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz.
