The Bradley women's track & field team turned in a solid performance at the Iowa Invitational, Friday, as junior Katie Nowak (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake H.S.), sophomore Erika Sepich (Canton, Ill./Canton H.S.), and senior Kim Martin (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone H.S.) claimed individual titles for the Braves.
Nowak, running in her first 800 meter race of the season, edged out Iowa State's Ines Fischer for the victory with a time of 2:16.64. Sophomore Rachel Brubaker (Davis, Ill./Durand H.S.) and freshman Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North H.S.) also finished in the top ten of the 800 meters, as Brubaker finished seventh in 2:28.61. Goldkamp was ninth in 2:29.91.
Sepich won the long jump for the Braves with a jump of 4.98 meters, narrowly missing her season best. Martin gave the Braves a pair of field event victories, winning the shot put with a throw of 12.21 meters. Sophomore teammate Catherine Schamberger (Amboy, Ill./Amboy H.S.) finished second in the shot put with a throw of 11.65 meters.
The Braves, who had won just one individual crown prior to Friday, competed very well in several other events, as Sepich finished seventh in the 60 meters final with a time of 8.42 seconds. Nowak turned in her second top-three finish of the meet, finishing third in the 600 meters with a time of 1:38.67. Freshman Leann Murphy (Rochester, Ill./Rochester H.S.) was right behind Nowak in the 600, finishing fourth in 1:40.39
Junior Jessica Holloway (Paris, Ill./Paris H.S.) was fifth in the long jump with a leap of 4.44 meters. Sophomore Anne Bucalo (Fox River Grove, Ill./Cary-Grove H.S.) finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 10.74 meters.
Bradley will resume competition Saturday, March 1 at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championship in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
