PEORIA, Ill. --
Junior runner
Katie Nowak (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) has been named the Bradley Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week announced Thursday, after winning the 1,000 meter run at last week's Northern Iowa Invite.
Nowak turned in a career-best time of 2:55.35 in the 1,000 meters Saturday to pick up the first victory for a Bradley runner during the 2008 indoor season. She finished just short of the school record, crossing the line .11 seconds behind Deb Knieja's 1995 indoor school mark. A mechanical engineering major, Nowak owns a 3.96 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Nowak and the Braves return to action Friday, Feb. 15 at the Iowa State Meet in Ames, Iowa.
