Men?s Golf In Seventh After Day One At Carlton Oaks

Braves Finish 17th At First Market Bank Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Senior Nick Roth (Rochester, Ill./Rochester/Illinois Central) shot a season-low 73 as he helped the Bradley men's golf team improve by four shots from Monday's round and finish 17th among NCAA Division I teams at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate at the par-71 River Course at the Kingsmill Resort.

Roth had a rough opening round Monday, carding an 82, but turned in the best round of the tournament for the Braves with a final-round 73 Tuesday to finish tied for 68th at 155. Roth edged sophomore Zach Wanken (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) for top individual honors by one shot, with Wanken finishing tied for 72nd at 156 after a second-round 77.

Freshman Nathan Perry (Normal, Ill./Normal West) finished just two shots behind Roth in a tie for 78th place at 157 after carding a final round 82. Fellow freshman Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) was right on Perry's heals, shooting a second-round 77 to finish one shot back of Perry at 158 in a tie for 85th place. Senior Tommie Ackerman (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Christian/Illinois Central) tied for 95th at 162 after a final round of 84.

Sophomore Zach Zobrist (Morton, Ill./Peoria Christian) played as an individual and matched Perry's two-round score of 157 after firing a season-best score of 76 Tuesday. Sophomore Kyle Phelan (Fishers, Ind./Cathedral) was also competing as an individual and finished in 98th place at 165, shooting a final-round 84 to conclude play.

Detroit Mercy finished first among NCAA Division I teams with an eight-over par 576. Gardner-Webb was nine shots behind the Titans at 585, while Florida Gulf Coast and James Madison were tied for third at 586. Richmond finished fifth at 589 and Liberty followed in sixth place one shot behind the Spiders at 590.

St. Bonaventure was seventh at 593, with Bucknell (8th - 594), Georgetown (9th - 596) and St. Joseph's (10th - 602) rounding out the top 10, respectively. Towson finished one shot behind St. Joe's in 11th at 603 and tournament-host William and Mary was 12th in the standings with a two-round score of 604.

Temple placed 13th at 610, edging 14th-place Army's score of 611. George Mason was 15th at 613 and Delaware edged the Braves for 16th place by three shots at 619. Bradley followed in 17th place at 622 and Villanova completed the field in 18th place, finishing 17 shots behind the Braves.

The Bradley men's golf team returns to action March 31 and April 1 at the Branson Creek Invitational in Hollister, Mo.
