PEORIA, Ill. ? Bradley freshman Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) came from behind to win at three-set match at No. 4 singles to lead the Bradley women's tennis team to a 4-2 victory in a shortened match at the Markin Tennis Courts in Peoria.

In a match originally scheduled to be played at Western Illinois, both the men's and women's matches took place outdoors at the Markin Courts on campus. With only three courts available to each dual match, both coaches agreed to play an abbreviated dual.

Miller dropped the first set at No. 4 singles to Ashley Clark, 6-3, but battled back to win 11 of the final 12 games in the match to take the second set, 6-4, and the third set, 6-1. The victory is the first at No. 4 for Miller and moves her spring record to 7-1.

In other singles matches, sophomore Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton H.S.) needed only two sets to defeat Amanda Griffin at No. 1, 6-4, 7-6. Sophomore Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral H.S.) won her first match of the spring after Zi Wang retired in the second set. Buterbaugh had won the first set, 6-3. Sophomore Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) dropped her match at No. 2 singles to Kim Lennartsson, 6-2, 6-4, while Kate Kennedy stopped Bradley junior Erin Krubeck (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.), 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5.

The Braves (3-5) won the doubles point for an early lead, as Miller and Regenold ran their spring record to 7-1 with an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles over Griffin and Kennedy. Krubeck and junior Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) won for the second consecutive time at No. 3, beating Clark and Yana Meinert, 9-7.

The two squads were unable to finish two matches during the dual, as the match between Braun and Meinert at No. 6 was stopped once the dual had been decided. Once the Braves secured the doubles point with a pair of doubles wins, the No. 1 doubles match of Buterbaugh and Donohue against Lennartsson and Wang was stopped as well.

Bradley opens Missouri Valley Conference play this Friday at Illinois State at 3 p.m.
