Bradley sophomore Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral) claimed one of four BU singles victories, leading the Braves to a 5-2 victory over Creighton, Friday afternoon, at the Clubs at River City. The decision marks the first Missouri Valley Conference victory for Bradley.
Three Bradley singles victories came in straight sets. Buterbaugh, playing at the No. 3 singles position, defeated Creighton's Sarah Cadwallader, 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West) won her 11th match of the spring with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Leesa Cadwallader at No. 4 singles. At No. 5, junior Erin Krubeck (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) didn't lose a game on her way to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph against Rachelle Sjoji. Junior Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) won by forfeit, as the Bluejays had only five players.
The visitors got victories at the top two singles positions, led by a three-set win at No. 1 from Lindsey Erickson. Erickson was pushed to the limit by BU sophomore Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) before winning 6-4, 3-6, 10-5. At No. 2, Lauren Mastro defeated Bradley's Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy), 6-2, 6-0.
The Braves won the doubles point, as Miller and Regenold won their second MVC match of the year at No. 2, coupled with a forfeit victory at No. 3. Leesa and Sarah Cadwallader defeated Buterbaugh and Donohue, 8-7, at No. 1 doubles.
Conference play continues Saturday in Peoria when the Braves host Wichita State at the Clubs at River City at 1 p.m.
