Bradley sophomore Erika Sepich (Canton, Ill./Canton H.S.) won the second individual title of the outdoor season for the Bradley track & field team, winning the javelin title at the Hawkeye Invitiational in Iowa City, Saturday afternoon.
Sepich turned in a throw of 127 feet, 10 inches to win the event, beating runner-up Kelly Magennis of Marquette by 20 inches. Sepich joins Katie Nowak (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake H.S.) as the only Braves to win outdoor events this season. Nowak also registered a top-three finish Saturday, placing third in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:33.68. Sophomore Rachel Bruabker (Davis, Ill./Durand H.S.) joined Nowak in the top ten of the 1,500, finishing 10th in a time of 4:51.54. Nowak also finished ninth in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:01.58.
Junior Amanda Harms (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South H.S.) finished 10th in the 100 meter hurdle preliminaries, turning in a time of 16.48 seconds.
In other field events, junior Jessica Holloway (Paris, Ill./Paris H.S.) finished in the top ten of the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 3.5 inches for eighth place. Freshman Nadia LaBostrie (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood East H.S.) was tenth in the event with a jump of 14 feet, 5.25 inches. In the triple jump, junior Trish Martens (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central H.S.) finished sixth with a jump of 34 feet, five inches. Senior Kim Martin was seventh in the hammer throw at 162 feet, six inches, then placed 12th in the discus with a throw of 125 feet, one inch.
The Braves will continue the outdoor schedule Saturday, April 26, at the Butler Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind.
