CINCINNATI, Ohio ? The Bradley women's tennis team played their first of two matches in the state of Ohio this week, dropping a 7-0 decision to Xavier Wednesday afternoon in Cincinnati. The Musketeers didn't drop a set on their way to a sweep over the Braves.
Xavier took an early lead with a sweep of the doubles matches, as the BU pairing of sophomores Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral H.S.) and Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) pushed the Xavier duo of Kara Courtney and Jeanette Feidler to the limit before falling, 9-7. At No. 2 doubles, Aylin Seyalioglu and Tifanie Treece stopped the BU duo of freshman Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) and sophomore Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton H.S.), 8-5. Miller and Regenold have only lost four times this spring, but have now dropped three in a row. Xavier's Jill Ducro and Annie Diedalis capped the doubles sweep at No. 3, besting BU juniors Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) and Erin Krubeck (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.), 8-2.
The hosts controlled each of the six singles matches, winning all of the contests in straight sets. Playing in her hometown of Cincinnati, Regenold fell at No. 1 singles to Courtney, 6-2, 6-0. Treece stopped Donohue at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2.
At No. 3, Buterbaugh lost to Kinnard, 6-4, 6-1, while Ducro defeated Miller, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4. Miller is now 7-4 on the spring but has dropped three straight matches. Seyalioglu turned away Krubeck at No. 5, 6-1, 6-1, while Feider downed Braun at No. 6, 6-3, 6-1.
