The Bradley women's tennis team won the doubles point in a dual match for the seventh time this season, but host Drake won five of six singles matches to defeat the visiting Braves, 5-2, Sunday morning in Des Moines, Iowa.
The BU pairing of freshman Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) and sophomore Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton H.S.) won for the ninth time this spring at No. 2, defeating Irina Kalashnikova and Kari Sloboth, 8-6. A default victory at No. 3 for juniors Erin Krubeck (Boulder, Colo/Fairview H.S.) and Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) secured the early lead for the Braves.
BU sophomores Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) and Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral H.S.) lost at No. 1 doubles to Veronika Leszayova and Sarah Plowman, 8-0.
The lone Bradley singles point came in the form of a defaul victory for Braun at No. 6, as the Bulldogs claimed each of the five remaining singles matches with straight set victories. Leszayova defeated Regenold at No. 1, 6-1, 6-1, while Kalashnikova stopped Donohue at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2. Sloboth swept past Buterbaugh at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0, while Miller's two-match win streak at No. 4 was snapped by Daria Zawislak, 6-1, 6-4. Plowman defeated Krubeck, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 5 to finish the Drake scoring.
The loss drops the Braves to 4-10 on the year and 0-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Bradley will resume play with a midweek non-conference dual against Saint Louis, Wednesday, in Peoria.
