PEORIA, Ill. ?
Bradley junior Katie Nowak (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake H.S.) and senior Ainslie Schultz (Forest City, Iowa/Forest City H.S.) have both been named to the ESPN the Magazine District 5 All-Academic Track & Field and Cross Country First Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday. With the selections, Bradley has placed a combined eight athletes on ESPN the Magazine All-District teams, equaling a school record set last season.
Nowak owns a 3.96 cumulative grade point average in mechanical engineering and capped a successful junior season with a second place finish in the 1500 meter run at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships last month, becoming the first Bradley track & field athlete to earn all-conference honors since 2003. She broke the outdoor school record in the 800 meter run twice this spring, setting the new mark of 2:12.80 at the Stan Lyons Open in Indianapolis on April 26. She was named to the Missouri Valley Conference cross country and track & field scholar-athlete teams, as well as being named the Bradley Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week six times this year.
Schultz has now qualified for the District 5 First Team in back-to-back years after making the squad in 2007. An accounting major, she owns a 3.99 cumulative grade point average as a four-year member of the cross country team. Schultz set a career-best 4K time of 15:27 in the Illini Challenge to open the cross country season last August. She was Bradley's third-best runner at the Bradley Open, turning in a 14th place finish.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing and have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average.
