AMES, Iowa
? Bradley junior Katie Nowak (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake H.S.) completed the mile run in 4:50.88 at the ISU Open, Saturday, winning her third race of the indoor season and breaking the previous Bradley indoor record in the mile run set by Mary Ellen Hill in 1999.
Nowak's time of 4:50.88 beat runner-up Nicole Braunsdorf of Drake by almost two full seconds (4:52.79) and broke the previous BU best by Hill of 4:53.16. Hill set three indoor school records from 1998-99, as Nowak's performance on Saturday made her the first Brave to set a new mark previously held by Hill. Including outdoor track & field performances, Hill still owns six all-time BU track & field records. In all, Hill won two MVC cross country titles and owns 10 Valley titles overall. She received all-American honors in the 5,000-meter run in the 1998 NCAA indoor championships after a ninth place finish and a fourth place finish at the outdoor championships.
