PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior women's tennis player Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday, after helping the Bradley women's tennis team to a 7-0 victory against Valparaiso in the Braves spring opener last week.
Regenold opened the 2009 spring slate with a victory at No. 2 singles, downing Valparaiso's Molly Keifer 6-3, 6-2 to help Bradley to a 7-0 sweep of the Crusaders Sunday. She also picked up a doubles win, teaming with sophomore Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West) at No. 1 doubles to post an 8-3 win against Valparaiso's duo of Keifer and Jenny Schwartz. A journalism major, Regenold owns a 3.45 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Regenold and the Braves return to action Saturday with a pair of matches in Fort Wayne, Ind. Bradley faces Robert Morris at 9 a.m. and IPFW later that day at 2 p.m.
