Regenold, Donohue Earn Wins at Queen City Invite

Braves Bounce Back to Top Ball State, 5-2

MUNCIE, Ind. ? The Bradley women's tennis team recorded its third win of the spring season on Sunday, defeating Ball State 5-2 at the YMCA Tennis Center in Muncie, Ind. The Braves won the doubles point and claimed four singles wins in the victory.

The Braves opened the match with a pair of doubles victories for the early lead. The BU doubles pairing of junior Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton H.S.) and sophomore Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) improved to 4-0 on the spring with an 8-6 win at No. 1 over Georgina Thomson and Dena Boulieris. The Braves secured the doubles point with a victory at No. 3 doubles, as senior Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) and freshman Veronika Wojakowska (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer H.S.) won an 8-6 decision over Rachel Surowiec and Hanna Oman.

The hosts recorded their lone doubles victory at No. 2. Kylee Johnson and Sarah Hebble notched an 8-4 victory over BU juniors Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral H.S.) and Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy).

In singles play, the Braves earned victories at each of the top three singles positions to win the match. Miller defeated Hebble 6-2, 6-2 at the top spot, while Wojakowska moved to 3-0 on the spring with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Boulieris at No. 2. Regenold needed three sets, but defeated Johnson 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 to run her spring singles record to 4-0. Bradley senior Erin Krubeck (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) picked up the fourth Bradley singles victory, beating Surowiec at No. 6 in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

Hayley Hall defeated Donohue at No. 4 for the Cardinals by a score of 6-1, 6-1, while Thomson defeated Buterbaugh in three sets at No. 5, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.

With four matches in the books, Regenold owns a perfect 8-0 combined record. Miller is 7-1, while Wojakowska is 4-0. The Braves will return home to start a season-long four-match homestand beginning with a 1 p.m. match against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Feb. 21.
