PEORIA, Ill. -- Saturday's women's basketball home game against Drake will be the Braves annual Pink Zone game with the proceeds benefitting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. The Bradley women's basketball team is joining with Methodist Medical Center and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation to help raise awareness of breast cancer with several Pink Zone events including a Friday night reception.
The weekend's activities begin Friday, Feb. 20 with a Pink Zone reception. Co-hosted by the Braves Club and Methodist Medical Center, the event will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the Lariat Steakhouse and will include specialists from Methodist, breast cancer survivors, supporters from the community and the Bradley women's basketball team. Linda Miracle, Executive Director of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, and head coach Paula Buscher will be speaking at the event. A special edition Pink Zone shirt will be available for sale. The cost for the Pink Zone reception is $5 with proceeds going to the Komen Foundation. In addition to Friday's Pink Zone reception, the Methodist Mobile Mammography Unit will be at Shea Stadium throughout the day, providing mammograms. Please call 671-8282 to schedule your Mammogram.
The Pink Zone game will feature Bradley taking on Drake at 2:05 p.m. at Lorene Ramsey Gym in East Peoria, Ill. The Braves will wear pink uniforms for the contest and both teams will be wearing pink warm-ups prior to the contest. In addition to receiving free admission, breast cancer survivors will receive pink scarves and will be recognized during half-time of the contest.
The first 500 fans will receive pink Bradley women's basketball clips and fans will be able to register for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Pink Ribbon Message Stones will be on sale in the lobby along with pink sweatshirts.
The Bradley women's basketball team has helped raise nearly $40,000 over the past five seasons through its their annual event. Coach Buscher will also be extending a Coach's Challenge, pledging $25 for every Bradley three-point basket made against the Bulldogs and invites others to take part in her challenge.
The Braves have been more than up to the challenge, hitting 34-of-75 (45.3 percent) from beyond the arc during the previous five events.
